We
are extremely pleased to announce that Rick Carrigan has
accepted the Director of Coaching position with the El
Dorado United Soccer Academy (EDUSA). Carrigan has been
coaching boys and girls youth soccer since 1993. The
Stockton Youth Soccer Association named him "Coach of
the Year" in 1994. From 1996 through 2001, Carrigan
coached Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams in
Districts 6 and 8. As an ODP coach, Carrigan has worked
with the "best of the best,” including Men’s National
team player Heath Pearce, and Major League Soccer
players Patrick Ianni (Seattle Sounders) and Amobi Okugo
(Philadelphia Union). Most recently, Carrigan was the
Director of Coaching for the American River Futbol Club
(ARFC). In his short stint with ARFC, Carrigan was
instrumental in growing the club—it doubled in size in
the past year. Before being named DOC at ARFC, Carrigan
was a coach with the San Juan Soccer Club for nine
years. One of his teams, the Spirits of ’89, was a State
Cup Finalist and participant in the USYS Far West
Regionals.
In addition to his extensive youth soccer coaching
background, Carrigan is widely recognized as a premier
high school soccer coach. Named as the Head Coach of the
Varsity Girl`s Soccer team at St. Francis High School in
2006, Carrigan has guided the Troubadours to four of the
past six CIF Sac-Joaquin Section championships. In
recognition of his outstanding achievement, the National
Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) named
Carrigan California State Coach of Year for
Private/Parochial Schools in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
In 2008, Carrigan was also named Regional Coach of the
Year by the NSCAA. Throughout his career Carrigan has
coached several men and women who have gone on to play
in college. Since 2007, Carrigan has served as the
assistant women`s coach at American River College, where
he helped take the team to the State Final Four twice.
Carrigan holds a National "C" coaching license from the
United States Soccer Federation and a Coaching
Certificate from the National Federation of State High
School Associations. In addition to being an
accomplished soccer coach, Carrigan holds a Master`s
degree from the University of the Pacific and teaches
English at Jesuit High School. Carrigan and his family
live in Fair Oaks.
